Driveway Car Turntable Site Measurement Guide
Measure the vehicle, gate opening, usable driveway area, approach path, slope and floor condition before choosing a pitless or pit-mounted driveway car turntable.
Short answer
Before asking for a driveway car turntable quote, record the largest vehicle, clear gate opening, usable driveway width and depth, approach direction, slope, floor condition and any fixed obstacles. A turntable can change the vehicle's exit direction, but it cannot correct an approach path that is too narrow, blocked by a wall or column, or too steep for the vehicle's ground clearance.
Measure the complete route from the road or garage door to the proposed platform, not only the circle where the turntable may sit. These site inputs help decide whether a low-profile CTB pitless layout or a flush CTA pit-mounted layout is practical and prevent a quote based on an unrealistic diameter alone.
What to measure before model selection
The useful dimensions are the ones that describe how the largest regular vehicle reaches, enters and leaves the platform. Use the largest SUV, pickup, EV or long-wheelbase car expected at the property rather than the smallest car that happens to be available on measurement day.

How to measure the vehicle and entrance
Start with the vehicle data sheet when one is available. Overall length and width are useful, but wheelbase and body overhang also matter because the wheels and body do not follow exactly the same path. Ground clearance becomes important when the driveway is sloped or when a pitless turntable uses a ramp. Gross vehicle weight should be confirmed for the heaviest regular vehicle, especially when the property may use an SUV, pickup or EV later.
At the entrance, measure the clear opening rather than the nominal gate size. A sliding gate, hinge, post, curb or wall return can reduce the usable width. Photograph the entrance from the road and from inside the property so the approach angle and visibility can be reviewed. If the vehicle enters from a narrow road, include the road direction and the position where the driver starts turning into the property.
Mark the usable site envelope
Draw a simple top view of the area and mark the proposed platform center. Add the nearest wall, column, garage door, step, planter, drain, curb and property boundary. Record the clear distance from the proposed center to each fixed edge. Do not use the total plot width if part of that width cannot be driven over.
The goal is not an architectural drawing. A legible hand sketch with real dimensions is usually more useful than a clean rendering without measurements. Show the vehicle entry arrow and the desired exit arrow. If the driver must stop before a gate closes or a garage door opens, mark that stopping position too.
Check slope, drainage and floor condition
A photograph can show that a driveway is sloped, but it rarely shows how much. Record the rise or fall over a known horizontal distance, or ask the local contractor to provide the gradient. Also mark where the slope changes. A short, sharp break in level can be more difficult for a low-clearance car than a longer gentle slope.
Drainage should be reviewed before the equipment layout is fixed. Water should not be directed into a pit, motor area, control cabinet or service opening. For a finished driveway, identify the existing drain direction and surface material. For a new-build project, ask the contractor to coordinate foundation, pit, conduit, drainage and final floor level after the selected model and drawing are confirmed.

Which images and drawings are useful
Send a small evidence set rather than many unrelated photos. Keep the camera level, include a known reference where possible and avoid cropping out the obstacles that define the usable space.

Remove house numbers, license plates, faces, customer names, phone numbers and unrelated private documents before sharing. Do not send a customer's exact address unless it is required for freight or an authorized project review.
Pitless or pit-mounted after measurement
For an existing finished home, CTB pitless review is often the practical starting point because it can reduce deep excavation. The tradeoff is that the platform and ramp remain above the surrounding floor, so ramp length, vehicle ground clearance, available approach space and drainage still need review.
For a new-build villa, basement entrance or major renovation, CTA pit-mounted review may be stronger when the owner wants a flush finished surface. The tradeoff is earlier civil coordination. Pit diameter and depth, concrete tolerance, conduit, drainage, cabinet position and final floor finish should follow the confirmed project drawing rather than being guessed before model selection.
Neither option is automatically better. The correct starting point comes from the measured site stage, the largest vehicle and the amount of local civil work the project can accept.
What a turntable cannot solve
A driveway turntable helps when the main constraint is vehicle direction. It does not widen a gate, remove a structural column, improve an unsafe road entrance, change local planning rules or guarantee that a low sports car can cross a steep break in slope. If the vehicle cannot reach the proposed platform safely, the approach layout must be revised before selecting the equipment.
It is also not a substitute for local structural, electrical or drainage review. Treat the turntable drawing as one part of the site plan and coordinate it with the local contractor before concrete, paving and final finishes are locked.
